On the west end of The National Mall stands the memorial to the nation's 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. The Memorial is a magnificent structure, and upon my first visit made me feel so overwhelmed with pride.

Behind the Lincoln statue you can read the words of Royal Cortissoz carved into the wall: "IN THIS TEMPLE AS IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE FOR WHOM HE SAVED THE UNION THE MEMORY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN IS ENSHRINED FOREVER."

As an American I take great pride in these monuments dedicated to our heroes. I wish we would honor every President with a larger than life statue along the National Mall.
