Musei Capitolini - Rome Italy

Capitoline Museum - Rome Italy
Just beside the Piazza Venizia are the steps that lead to the Capitoline Museum or Musei Capitolini as it is pronounced in Italian. It's a beautiful museum filled with statues, paintings, mosaics, and other works of art. The steps leading up to the museum are flanked with giant stone statues.
Michelangelo designed the architecture of the museum, which consists of three buildings and a beautiful courtyard. In the center of the courtyard is a large bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius.
The piazza is so beautiful that many brides make it the site for their weddings.
The Musei Capitolini is one of my favorite museums to visit in Rome. The price is 12 Euro per adult. Don't miss it!
Perhaps one of the most famous works of the Musei Capitolini is the remains of a giant Roman statue of Emperor Augustus
The scale of this statue is immense.
Paintings and statues decorate every room and hall of the museum.
The she wolf.
Beautiful chandeliers made of glass hang in every room.

One of the symbols of the Roman Empire, The She Wolf.
As the legend goes, raised by the she wolf the two twin brothers Romulus and Remus fought over disagreements and Romulus killed Remus. Romulus then became the first ruler of the newly founded Rome. Rome named in honor of Romulus.

The beautiful rooms and halls of the Musei Capitolini.

Some of the works were brought to Rome when the Roman empire invaded Egypt and date back to BC.

When you visit the Capitoline Museum be sure to take the underground passage below the piazza to the second building. The museum has only one entrance so it's easy to miss.

  1. The Head of the Medusa (with snakes as hair) IS NOT an ancient staute of the Greeks or romans, but: a work of Bernini (XVII CENTURY!!!)
